What is CursiveLogic?
CursiveLogic uses a logical approach to teach cursive letters with their CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack and The Art of Cursive. The premise of it's teaching is not learning in alphabetical order, but sorting the entire alphabet into shapes. And, students are instructed to say the shapes and letters while writing each letter. This multi-sensory approach using color movement, verbal and auditory skills is pure genius!
Another suggestion that surprisingly worked well was using markers. In the workbook, a writing utensil (including a marker) was suggested for easy gliding. My son was thrilled to use a marker as it's typically a no-no in our house. However, I made an exception in this case and relieved I did! We used several colors based on the instructions, which helped reinforce the appropriate methods taught.
How Did It Work for us?
My 11-year old son used the CursiveLogic Quick-Start Pack since he needed the most help. He made significant progress just on Day 3! I am so pleased with the results. We used the workbooks twice a week and couldn't believe the difference with his cursive in just 3 days. My son's cursive was breaking away from the flow of writing. With CursiveLogic, his letters were not choppy. With this kinesthetic strategy, he could retrieve what shape was next and didn't have to pause.
The Art of Cursive is originally designed for adults and students who have experience with the Quick-Start Pack. We did end up using it with my 13-year old daughter as she didn't want to miss out on the fun. At this age, she's fairly neat with her cursive but we noticed a few bad habits needed correction. So, we took the opportunity for extra practice.
We watched the video or webinar together to ensure the correct forms were correct from the beginning. It was a good decision for our family. Her confidence has soared since using the coloring book thanks to CursiveLogic.
