Did you ever see an image online that almost takes your breath away? The clarity, beauty, and awe factor reminds us how God’s art is great! I want to share with you a company called Creation Illustrated, which captures the essence of God’s awesome creations in images and words. Creation Illustrated sent us two of their unit studies and access to the magazines that match these studies for review.
ABOUT CREATION ILLUSTRATED
Before I spill out the details of our unit study, please give me a moment to share more about Creation Illustrated. Did you know that Creation Illustrated is entering its 25th year of publishing? They’ve been around quite awhile, which gives me confidence they are producing high-quality educational material. They use Christ’s method of teaching and as a reader put it, ” the Christian answer to National Geographic!”
Each edition is divided into 3 sections: In Nature, In Scripture, and In Living. Each of these areas provides a balance of Mental, Spiritual, and Physical enrichment. As a Christian homeschool educator, this makes me happy! Plus, the illustrations are gorgeous and beautiful.
SNOW UNIT STUDY
Now, let’s talk about the Snow Unit Study. We decided to start with the snow study before the cold weather left us (not that I mind warming weather!). We just had snow this week even though Spring is technically upon us — it went perfectly with our weather. The Winter Magazine is where you can find additional facts about snow and beautiful pictures of the Winter season.
The Snow Unit Study, called Intricacies of Snow, is designed for grades 5th through 8th but can be used for all ages. My kids are the perfect age at 11 and 13 for this unit study. It was really easy to integrate into our school day.
We really loved how it started with reading the bible, called Bible Study on Snow. The kids were instructed to look up 14 verses, many were in the same book and surprisingly, didn’t take up much time. The next question asked was their favorite Bible verse, further stimulating deeper thought into the Word. Following the Bible section, Snow Science asked 10 fill-in-the-blank questions.
SPIRITUAL SENSE
When they were finished with this area, they wrapped up for the day using the Spiritual Lessons of Snow. This part asked the student to reflect on the analogy of comparing snow to spiritual qualities. It was my favorite part of the unit study! It gives the kids an opportunity to think in a more spiritual sense.
The next section is great for kinesthetic learners. There are activities recommended such as making snow crystals and/or planning a snow cave or igloo. Awesome ideas! We actually had snow on the ground but by the time we were at this part, the snow was almost melted!
This unit study required reading a story before completing the questions. I sent both my kids a link to the e-book via email so they could read it on their tablet instead of printing it on paper.
I was impressed with their neat writing and answers that it went right on the refrigerator for display!
The unit study continued to include ALL subjects. Here is a rundown of the Table of Contents — Writing & Penmanship, Vocabulary & Spelling, Bible Study, Science, Geography, and Art. Also included are links to Reading Resources, Educational Videos, and Puzzle & Activities. It was also helpful to access Teachers Answer Keys as well.
MORE UNIT STUDIES
You’ll also want to check out their Pine Trees unit study! This unit study ties in with their Fall ’17 Digital Edition. We will be working on it this with my son when visiting my parents next time in the south. Their location has TONS of pine trees! Did you know the bible mentions trees 200 times? There must be something important about them and you may want to find out more.
Check out the Pine Trees unit study. I’m looking forward to learning more about it and teaching my parents all about pine trees!
For a small price of $9.95 for these unit studies, you can’t beat it! You could use them in one week or span it over a couple of weeks or even a month (depending on age).

FINAL THOUGHTS
I would highly recommend Creation Unit Studies, for those looking to change up their daily routine or want a deeper discussion on subjects in a more spiritual manner. Today, I gave my daughter a choice to work on a regular school schedule or finish a unit study with Creation Illustrated, and she chose the latter! So, it’s a win-win for everyone!
