Part of my job as a member of the Homeschool Review Crew is to write mostly homeschool online and curriculum reviews. This time, however, my 13-year daughter received the opportunity to take a one-time online LIVE class from CodeWizardsHQ. I was a bit hesitant to sign up — not because I didn’t think it was interesting, but because my daughter might not be able to keep up.
I was wrong.
What is CodeWizardsHQ?
But, before we get into how she liked the online live class, let’s get into the meat of the program. CodeWizardsHQ classes are LIVE where students can interact directly with the instructor. The instructors lead the students through our structured curriculum and help them during hands-on coding exercises. They can see them work, give feedback on their results, and walk them through any steps.
There are a variety of times available for all students to fit any busy schedule. Included is a homeschool page for daytime hours, which is perfect for coops or small groups of students.

Now let’s talk about my daughter’s thoughts on the class. She took the class An Introduction to Coding. She was nervous about not being about to navigate at the pace of the instructor. When it started, the instructor Lynn was friendly, asked about each student, and then introduced herself. She was intentional about getting to know each student. One student came in a little late and she was able to get him up to speed quickly with all of the tools available at their disposal.
The instructor explained to the students a bird’s eye view of how coding works. She talked about the relationship to the web and servers where information is stored. Then, they took existing simple code and created “panels” with word bubbles and characters (of their choice) for a cartoon-type exercise. My daughter was pleasantly surprised she was able to keep up with her instructions and her participation level. When the class was over, she was excited and proud of her accomplishments.
As her mother, I was relieved the class went well and it exceeded my expectations. She took a live class a couple of years ago and it was a struggle for her. This time, she enjoyed learning code, wasn’t intimidated by the process, and enjoyed interacting with the teacher and students. Now, she knows how to make her own cartoon pages!
The cost of CodeWizardsHQ‘s classes are $149/Month which includes 4 1-hour classes, a Code editor software subscription, Web hosting & Server space, 24/7 instructor email support and Weekend instructor live help.
